I Have A Friend

Outline: If we can't insult our friends... who can we insult?
I have a friend I keep upsetting

Who knows I'm joking; poking fun

Once in a while.

So why do I sit here regretting

Their hurt eyes soaking; moping glum

Without a smile?

If our great link is now regressing

And jokes are taunting; haunting puns

Where they see guile

I see a bond true representing

A strong link forging; forcing Sun

To shine awhile.

Hi Ron,

The saying is that you hurt those you love the most, isn't it. Sometimes we feel comfortable with people and just blurt things out. Not until you sit back and really think about what you've said do you realise the consequences.

If the friendship is strong, there will be no problems.

Take care,

ml

Nicely written Ron, it really demonstrates the saying, "It always turns out right in the end."

This was the whole point of the poem ML - there should be NO consequences! I hate 'political correctness', especially between friends.

I think friends should grow up and realise their friends occassionally take the piss out of them.

All my friends have the piss taken out of them from time to time and I haven't lost one yet through it Wink

Cheers

Hi there H,

Glad you dropped by... bin wantin' to talk to you about your new role in the BBC's 'Life on Mars' series. I know you did the 'technical backup' for the Director but did you really have to put on that mini skirt and take the part of the WPC? Shocked Laughing Blimey, mate, you'll do anything to get recognised, eh? Confused

A lot of 'friends' love hurling hurtful banter at each other. It just rolls off. Some turn into double acts and brighten up those around them while others are shocked by what they see.
Then, on the other side of the coin, some people, selfishly, are oblivious to their friends feelings and make that step too far. I think this poem is about these accidental slips that are followed by trying to retrieve the situation.
I enjoyed reading this poem and will return to it.
Like it.

Do you know Ron, believe it or not, it was one of those
Doppelgangers that did that one, and I am sticking to it.

Ian,

That type of person has no 'real' friends as such and knows it. They try to undermine because that way they have, at least, some sort of interaction with the group - a group that does not normally take them into their full confidence. They are the tolerated Outcast but are desperate to be more.

Nice to speak to you again, man, glad you stopped by.

Best,

Ron

The sun always comes out after the rain and even the worst storm dies down and gives way to peace.
Any friend who cannot take a bit of banter is hardly a friend. He/She'll be even less likely to be the proverbial 'friend in need', when the going gets rough.
A few thoughts on your poem, Ron.
