Please make me laugh again!

Outline: Dedicated to all those facing a different Christmas from the one they expected.
Please make me laugh again!
Bring on the dancing elves
The jingle bells
Show me the laden shelves
In golden shops
And take away the pain
For just a while
And when it stops
I’ll try to smile.

Play me those stupid songs,
Nostalgic Christmas carols
And seasonal pops.
Bring out the wine in barrels
And festive pies.
And cancel all the wrongs
And tell the night
To close my eyes
And make it right.

I’ll wake on Christmas Day
And think of Christmas past
The happy thoughts
That everything would last
Another year.
But look the other way
And all I see
Fills me with fear.
There’s only me!

Sad poem of loneliness at Christmas.
Christmas as a memory.
Good poem, with a thought.

Many of us have been here, wondering if those Christmas songs would ever conjur up the mood again and wondering if we would ever feel we weren't alone. You've captured it well, I think, although it's not easy to empathise with something so recently painful, and that may be why the last line seemed to me to be out of character with the rest, somehow. It's probably just me :)

You sound as disillusioned with the whole commercial hype as I am! I felt great empathy with this poem. I have taken up charity work, and having attended several of the inevitable Christmas parties, feel that if I hear one more Christmas song I shall commit murder!! Thanks for sharing,
in a funny sort of way it cheered me up!

Belated thanks for reading and commenting. This Christmas has been hard for me, but it is now time to start looking forward again.

This touching poem tore a heart string or two. I know a bit about solitude, and you captured it beautifully.

I sincerely hope that you never get to write something this sad about Christmas again.
