George was Best

George Was Best

Boro verses Man United
Same time every year
FA Cup at stake again
The laughter and the tears.
‘Don’t give him the ball, Lord,
Don’t give him the ball.’
God says, ‘Watch,’ and
George says, ‘Thanks,’ and
Dribbles round the wall.
Fifty thousand screaming fans
We love him to a man
No one can defend his run
And I’m a Boro fan.

Ah Ron, how many tributes will the great man get? Was there a person he didnt touch in some way; on some level?

Once in a lifetime, Bedford, a new star shines in Life's heaven. For millions that star was called George and his brilliance will shine forever.

Thanks.

Scribbler, every single person in Britain knows of him and as Sammy said in his tribute, even Tibetan hill tribes know him. You'll have to live a long time to see another Leading Light like him... Rooney and Gascoigne are Bestish, but George was first and is still foremost.

Cheers

This is a brilliant tribute, Ron, simple excellent. Cool
I can't imagine any true football fan not applauding Bestie's genius on the field of play. Watching him was like watching a moving work of art.
I hear there was a lot of jeering and catcalls at grounds today, but that's only to be expected from fallible humans. I'm sure Boro fans will show the utmost respect, as United have done yous a few favours over the years... especially Steve McLaren. Can we have him back now? Laughing

It's easy to stop Rooney. Just line the sideline with trays full of pies and put a lot of really old women behind the goal.

A nice tribute Ron. Each time I've seen those clips of him on tv today, I've smiled, even when he lobbed Pat Jennings (again), and I'm a Spurs fan. He took and gave such joy on the field, how could fans do anything but smile and admire the genius?

Sammy,

Just found out that at Wolves and Celtic yesterday when the Ref blew for a minute's silence the crowd gave him a minute's Ovation instead - Alan McKean, a poet I've just met, was at Molyneux and said 'A wall of sound is better than silence.' Wink
