The Day I went To Mexico

Outline: Zorro was there!
San Diego checkpoint checking ev’ry car
Tijuana sunrise blazing on the eye
Mariachi melody bouncin’ round the bar
Mescale worm in bottle is a high.

T shirt shop on Main Street selling vapour dreams
Offers also Uzi to protect a ton of grass
That guy was plum loco if he thinks I’m buyin’ that
‘Give me just a poncho and a wide-brimmed funny hat.’

‘Dos cervezas, por far vour, and play that tune again’
Senorita singing while marrackers click ‘n clack
Trumpets blast an eardrum with a Pancho Villa track
Singin’ dancin’ drinkin’ town wish I was goin’ back.

Lovely flowing rhyming style, Ron, and a pleasure to read. Laughing
I think senorita needs a little squiggle over the 'n'.

hey Ron, I was in Mexico City in July so I just had to drop in.. that first stanza was good, summed up the atmosphere nicely. liked Tijuana sunrise blazing on the eye ,though the haze obscured my sunrise most days - in the city.

and here's a chunk of reality ..
T shirt shop on Main Street selling vapour dreams
Offers also Uzi to protect a ton of grass

so a good collection of sights and sounds .. and you know you'll be back.

thanks, Eric

I really liked this poem. I haven't been to Mexico but you capture an upbeat tempo that I would associate with mexico. You do this skilfully - I could almost hear those marrackers and see the bright colours.

But I have eaten the mescale worm! Shame on me - but you have to try these things the once. lol Rolling Eyes

I didn't understand every line but this seems a perfect atmosphere of Mexico, see it, smell it, feel it, hear it in the poem - it works very well.

I've never been but its as I imagine...

Hi Tracy,

Aye, lass, you're right, there are colours in Mexico that pull your eye to the Rainbow People that they are.

And the worm? Hope you weren't greedy and nicked it before the bottle was empty? The worm is the Prize from the last drink out of the bottle of Mescala. Monster

Cheers

Hi PG,

I've only been there once myself, on that day trip, but it seems like everyone I know goes there for their hols now and it's a land filled with wonderful stuff to do.

Glad I could transport you there for a short while.

Very Happy
