Children's Shoes

Poetry Author: Firecat

Created: 10 November 2004

When taking children to buy shoes,
Always choose a shop with loos!
Avoid the ones with longest queueues -
They are never such good news.
Never let your children choose,
Never listen to their views:
They will find it almost funny
Buying those which are most money -
You're the one with much to lose.
Then you'll go home with the blues.

Oh my god this is charming! It reads as if it were fun to write as well. Not only is this funny from your point of view, but I can hear it being read to children.. Cool This is very fetching.

Thankyou so much, Andy!

I owe so much to Mabel Lucy Atwell. We grew up with a poem of hers on our bathroom wall:

Please remember, don't forget,
Never leave the bathroom wet.
Nor leave the soap still in the water,
That's a thing we never oughter!
Nor leave the towels about the floor,
Nor keep the bath an hour or more
When other folks are wanting one.
Please don't forget, it isn't done!

The biggest compliment I got a year ago was a shoe shop owner asking if I minded if he put it up on the shop wall.

Minded!!!

I have been a kids shoe fitter.
I've seen fights which are so bitter.
"I want the red ones, with the glitter"

Box upon box, all shapes and hues.
I've seen the stress, the tears, the blues
of end of hols shopping for shoes

and I've been on the other side,
a Mum to four, Oh how I've tried
to see that while I can't abide

the too high heels, the straps, the shine
their tastes are far removed from mine.
That what I hate, they find devine.

A compromise we have to reach.
Don't bully, bribe, dictate, beseech.
resignedly for wallet reach.

Just smile and realise that you know
that when to school they come and go
plastered blisters all on show

You'll quietly say
"I told you so!"

Hey! That's lovely! ~ and much better than mine! Shocked Publish it!
If I could remember who wrote the poem that inspired mine and hack it out of Get Writing, maybe we could get a chain of Children's Shoes going, each inspired by the other.... Head hurts
Must drop round your place to see what other cheer you can give me!
Cheers Ta Cat

The poem that inspired mine was Teenage Shoes, by Fullanonsense. Does anyone know how I can go back into her space in Get Writing and rescue it? Confused

There you go. If you want to find a piece of work on GW and put the name of the author and or the work in yahoo or google search it usually brings up the work or the author's GW PF.
