Black Dog

Black Dog

Poetry Author: Firecat
Created: 10 November 2004

I too have seen the Black Dog.
Do not throw sticks for it.
Throw them at it!
Chase it away! It is not welcome here.
Do not throw a ball!
That would attract the dancing dogs
And you do not want them now.
Turn on all the lights!
Leave no dark corners for them to lurk in.

I dragged my family out to walk today.
They did not want to.
They did not see the confetti falling,
Only the baring trees.
They did not see the dull Virginia Creeper
Turned vivid red.

The conkers may have fallen,
But the sticky buds are back already!

A churchillian effort, I like the confetti image as a part of the world marries itself to winter . G stuff. Very Happy

Funny about that, I saw a black dog around me today.
Your writing is so, fresh and
well it's lovely and enthusiastic. I liked also "they did not see the confetti falling,". Auf. Poor gits, we are sometimes.
Good one

Bedford, thankyou - and sorry you couldn't sleep?(Likewise Andmy!).
Churchill did keep referring to his Black Dog, didn't he...
I like your image of the world marrying itself to winter, much food for thought there!
Andy, I love walking my dog, a mostly black collie cross, in the mornings. Half-a-mile from our grotty 100 house terraces we could be right out in the countryside, if it wasn't for the sirens, trains, planes...
As for faith, whatever it is in, I find it helps keep hope ~ without which we die?
Sorry for being philosophical, and thanks for reading ~ I was nearly giving up hope on that?

That's a cheery review, [user], like coming in from the cold clag to a warm fire!

We are not even having frosts here yet this year, which is lovely but really weird; what have we done?

If you are lucky enough to have shares in European clothes shops, I would sell them ~ I've barely stopped wearing sandals to walk the dog! Why wear winter drabs in the sunshine?
