Autumn - Roo

Autumn is my favourite season - all the red leaves fall.
Cool, sunny days, no summer haze;
Cool evenings, Thrush's call.

Summer's harshness over now, Winter's yet to come.
A glowing fireplace, gentle warmth
From long-dead River Gum.

Birds are getting ready for the cold that's almost here.
Foxes' coats are thickening now,
Displaying "Winter gear".

For several months the seasons change from heat to bitter chill.
But Autumn is a pleasant time;
I wish t'was Autumn still

Cold!!! In Australia!!!! You're messing with our minds.
Still, I suppose if you are in the lower regions of that vast country. Confused Will have to google it.

Enjoyed the read.

Ian

(thought)I suppose being a big country the climate in Australia is different throughout. As a British child you think of Britain as being a massive country. As time goes on and you grow up into adulthood, Britain gets smaller and smaller until it is just a pebble. I am proud of this pebble but when you compare it to the likes of Australia and America on Google Earth, you realise how insignificant this pebble is.

Hi Ian,
Thanks for commenting. Australia is approximately (a little smaller) than the lower 48 continental USA states. Yet there are 250 million Americans and 21 million Aussies. So we have cities and wide open spaces. The coldest I can remember was in Canberra where it can get to minus 6 degrees but with the bitter wind down there it can have a wind chill factor which makes it considerably colder. Aussies have a different concept of distance and space to Europeans. My partner is German and she finds it hard to understand that we drive to Brisbane, 1100 k's, about 650 miles, or Melbourne, which is about the same, in a day. But there's a lot of lonely roads.

Now Ian and Roo, stop messing with my mind Laughing . It's the 1st of Dec. and the first day of summer. And it's summer throughout Australia! I think Roo just wrote about his favourite season, Autumn, and did a fine job. Really enjoyed the read. Great stuff. cheers, scarlet

Hi Scarlet, and thank you for commenting. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Today is the first day of Summer here in Oz ... (are you an Aussie too?) ... and soon it will be gasping hot again. And we will complain about the sweltering heat until it gets cold again, when we will long for the summer again. The rhythm of Life!

Incidentally, that's a great new avatar you have!

I'm half Aussie and half American, and have lived in Oz for sometime now. I also have French, Irish and American Indian blood in me, just to add to the chaos Laughing . Thanks about the avatar. cheers, scarlet

Hey Ian, I was almost in full-flight-flirt mode there and you've ruined it! Never mind, I will try and turn my attention to Christmas on the beach.

Scarlet, I liked your comment, "just to add to the chaos". Yes, we are the product of many ingredients from our background.

Piya, thank you for commenting. I'm sorry to hear of the terrible happenings in your country at this time. It seems no country, no community, no person, can be compacent about these things. I trust you and your family are safe.
