Scourge Of The Streets.

Outline: A poem about the hypocrisy over drug use within government circles. (No change there, then). Dates from Dec.1997. Caveat Emptor is Latin for Let The Buyer Beware...
Why: fun
Review: any
SCOURGE OF THE STREETS.

If a ten pound deal for 'blow'
can get this country worked up so
the implication should not be lost on you or me
for if government ministers are not hypocritical
the case against journalists was political
and this cabinet must be seen in it's duplicity
Should journalists hold their tongues
about drug dealing ministers sons
our legal process abides by a dubious morality
Were the Attourney General's decision not crass
perhaps the law really is an ass
and should be changed with some alacrity
Is it not too much to ask
why THIS drug pusher was not taken to task
when others are not treated so leniently ?
So if you're stuck in London Town
and you fancy some hash brown
make sure you make your purchase carefully
Apply caveat emptor should you buy from William Straw
double standards still exist in this society.

Author Explanation: When the news broke that the journalist who bought the drugs from Home Secretary Jack Straw's son was the one being arrested and charged and not the drug dealer, it contrasted with a story in the local rag about a guy who got six months for giving a mate one joint... Now why was this allowed to occur I wonder ? Could it have had something to do with the fact that William Straw wouldn't be allowed into the U.S.A. with a drug conviction ? Probably.

Excellent write, Chris. Of course the drug dealer should have been charged and sent to prison. Could be, and most likely will be, a precedent set for attorneys to use when defending other drug dealers. I believe no one is above the law, and this situation shakes the foundation of what law is for. cheers, scarlet

I quote from the Old Testament-"There is no justice at the gate". Unfortunately between then and now there hasn't been either. The differance is that today very few people care because injustice is so common that it is scarcely newsworthy.

The Law has become no more than a means to raise direct taxation by targetting the otherwise harmless perpetrators of victimless crime.

Now here's a thing 'cos Jack Straw is now Minister for Justice whatever that means ?
and the Labour party want to re-classify cannabis once again... The police on the other hand think it's a complete waste of time and won't enforce it if they do.
I don't often have too many good words to say about our Boys in Blue but bearing in mind how many people use the stuff, they have probably got the right idea. Personally I'd sooner they went after criminals as opposed to 'self pleasure seekers', and the sooner we get the Dutch system, the sooner we can control it as opposed to continually tell falsehoods about it on the grounds that it is 'illegal'. Although how you can make a plant that naturally grows wild in some countries illegal is beyond comprehension ?

Anyway, the whole 'injunction' against the press telling us it was the current Home Secretary's son was the trigger, and it just kept getting better and better...
How you gonna vote this time, Jack... Hypocrisy or justice ?
