It Might As Well Be You.

Outline: A cynical encounter between two people...
Why: fun
Review: any
IT MIGHT AS WELL BE YOU.

All those faces in the crowd with nothing better to do
but I don't care much either way
so it might as well be you

I don't have the time to stand around I've got better things to do
I'd like some company through the night
and that might as well be you

I promise I won't hurt you I'll show consideration too
but it's really just a one night stand
and it might as well be you

So leave your friend who talks too much I think she's unbearable too
Someone's got to get through to her
and that might as well be you

No Love no complication I hope you feel that way too
A one night stand your place or mine ?
Ahh... It might as well be you

So kiss me like you mean it and I'll do the same for you
If anyone tells lies about tonight
then it might as well be you

'Cause I like you and you're pretty and tonight you'll have to do
I can't be with the one I care for most, so
It might as well be you.

Author Explanation: Not the greatest chat up line I've ever uttered but it's had its moments... Dates from 1996.

So if you can't be
With the one you love,
Love the one you're with?

Tell you what, I liked this and I saw it as a great song lyric (the meter reminded of something by The Streets - can't remember its name). Good one, certainly resonates!

well written, liked it.

i couldn't help but wonder if this could be taken a step further though:

i have to marry someone
it might as well be you...

i have to breed with someone
it might as well be you...

and so on and so forth: live with someone, grow old with someone, die with someone - it might as well be you. an entire loveless, apathetic life charted.

Or would that just be too horrible, bleak and cynical?

To chat up and remain cool. Don't give a flicker of interest or else it will be seen as weak. Two people in cynical heaven.

Enjoyed this poem, it's rhythm and repetition. A poem with a grin.

Thanx for the kind words, peep's.

Bri. 'Love the one you're with' ? I wasn't with anyone, I was 'On the pull', and it worked... ps. I've already reviewed that one so I suggest mainlining some phyllosan (fortifies the over 40's, if you remember it ?).

Piya. Thank you for the kind words. I used to like 'groupies'. (I've reviewed that one, too).

Puddleglum. AAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHH ! The Streets ? Ouch, that hurts. I'm pleased you heard it in your head musically tho'. When I get the cd drive sorted out I'll post a couple of 'musical' bits, but they won't sound like The Streets.

N.V. Marriage ? Come on, I only wanted to 'try out', I certainly didn't want to 'buy',
and amazingly it worked...

Ian. An air of cynical and studied detached indifference ? Yep, that's me (he says, laughingly). I believe it was Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones who said 'If you have to think about being cool, you ain't...'
Now there's a man who'd know.

Bernie. True life ? Definitely. Mine (unfortunately).

Can't say that line would work on me, but the poem made me smile and I've certainly felt the sentiment when out on the pull even if I never had the guts to use the words.
I did like that very much.
