Hearts Of Darkness.

Outline: The truth about Africa... What do you think ? I\m currently out there...
Why: because...
Review: any
HEARTS OF DARKNESS.

I'm bored with bloody Africa
and the same pictures on the screen
those images flashed around the world
are pictures we've all seen
It seems their politicians
whoever they may be ?
are claiming yet more aid to avoid the pain
of a global tragedy

I'm bored with bloody Africa
and their wars that never cease
the killing, crying, raping, dying
of a people on their knees
and all their murderous warlords
whoever they may be ?
who'd claim the right to kill to cure the ill
of those who'd chose democracy.

I'm bored with bloody Africa
and the Aids virus rampant there
whose governments won't endorse contraception
to look out for their people's welfare
and all those politicians who stayed silent
who allowed this insanity
must live in shame and must take the blame
for a generation born with H.I V.

I'm bored with bloody Africa
and their despots who live like kings
who plunder aid given for their people's plight
which they spend on other things
but all their blood spattered dictatorships
wherever they may be
will be found guilty of more than genocide
when judged by humanity.

I'm bored with bloody Africa
the show went on far too long
A whole continent still in bondage
which fate their governments still prolong
and you might almost call it slavery
should you be of the mind ?
It seems so strange some things don't change
this world can be so unkind.

Author Explanation: Written to wake people up out of their stupor. Am I being overly cynical by stating that the only time we really think about it is when we are after tickets to the next Bob Geldof extravaganza ? Not my most popular live poem. Most people only hear the first line... and if any supporters of Zanu p.f. wish to comment from the perspective of that murderous thug Mugabe, then be my guest.

Hello Chris, this was a very brave and challenging piece to write. I enjoyed reading it as I know it's from your personal viewpoint and you say you 'are there'. I really struggle to understand the politics in that country that always looks so beautiful when they show the countryside and not just the townships, the stricken children and the villages being decimated by aids or the militants. Thanks for putting this piece up for review.

Well Chris, Can't comment from the perspective of Zanu p.f.,
but picking up on a couple of lines,
Quote:
whose governments won't endorse contraception-but all their blood spattered dictatorships

could have picked out several other also made me think of Christianity..Whom over the past couple of thousand years have done far worse, Catholics re the contraception for instance. This keeps far to many in poverty and still they are espected to pay a tithe to a church.

But agree with the sentiments, its about time the western world got its act together, much of the troubles having been caused by back door deals for gold/diamonds or other mineral rights granted in support for one regime over the other, then a spin put on it to make it seem they are helping A or B...

Aids research being another example, seen a few articles were supposed help is being given, when is non other than trials on human guinea pigs that would not be allowed in the western world, often the recipients not being made aware of side effect or indeed the unknowns of the treatment..

A thought provoking work...

Hi Chris,
You made it out there then! You know how I feel about such things, you summed it all up in one (insert suitable expletive) brilliant poem, one of your very best, and, if when doing it live the idiots only pick up on the first line then that's what they are, (expletive) idiots.
Have fun and come back safe.
Cheers
Grant

I think Bernie is right.

But having said that I've no idea how they go about it.

A powerful piece that irritates because I've no answers to the issues it raises.

hi all. thanx for the positive and i agree with you all i think. am having to do this in a rush on an african keyboard which has totally different punctuation to ours and a few letters in different places cos i cant get the local server to work on my laptop. i wanted to post it before i went and have spent over a week trying to get on line to actually do it. will post a few pics when i get back. criticism aint particularly liked here so where stays quiet till im back but the people are so friendly and so well informed globally, and im in a muslim country... we could learn a hell of a lot from these people.
stay cool... wish i could.

Zanu p.f, a dictatorship, came into power about 27-30 years ago, and being a dictatorship, that makes them above the law; amongst many other things in how they treat people. Mugabe is running for office this year(he's 83 years old), and he made and past a law that he could nominate a replacement if he could not go on, or death befalls him. However, the people are getting stronger; which is the only way to bring down a dictatorship, in that they are starting to rebel against the way they have/are being treated. Mugabe has ruined the economy. They keep getting richer and the people stay poor. I thing Bernie is right, it has to start with the people. It will take a while, but it will happen. Yes, he has a lot to answer for. This is an excellent poem, but it's such a tragedy that something like this has to be written. Have a safe trip home. cheers, scarlet

Right, before I come back on the crit's and things here is a joke...

A television journalist corners the Minister of Education of an African country and asks the following...

t.v. reporter. "Excuse me Mr Minister, may I ask you a few questions ?"
Minister. "Certainly I will answer questions, what would you like to know ?"
t.v. reporter. "Do you have any minerals in your country ?"

The Minister thinks for a moment and says...

Minister. "Yes, we have three... fanta, sprite and coke..."

Ain't humour wonderful ?

I've been back for twenty four hours after a six hour flight and then being held at Gatwick for heroin trafficking by the one customs officer who didn't know what baobaob is, and I'm knackered... I'll be back tomorrow.
