Almost A Sonnet For World Leaders (For Carlo Giuliani).

Outline: Written in 2001 after the events in Genoa.
Why: because...
Review: any
ALMOST A SONNET FOR WORLD LEADERS (FOR CARLO GIULIANI).

Why did Carlo Giuliani have to die ?
Was it to hide the hypocrisy in your eyes
that you are doing all you can
to alleviate crises in another's land
as thousands, who denied their right
to peaceful protest, start to fight
in Genoa to get their voices heard ?
As your asset stripping governments, worried sick
dangle gilded carrots over policemen's sticks
to make certain so called anarchist's voices
won't contradict your government's choices
while your media circus gives out the lie
that Carlo Guiliani had to die
because your brand of capitalism is preferred ?

Author Explanation: And people wonder why I (and quite a few other people) despise these so called World Leaders. The whole junket cost eighty million quid of tax payers money which I'm quite sure could have been spent on something worthwhile like famine or Aids relief perhaps ? Maybe it's just me but I thought it unjust then and still do now ? As for the death of C.G. wait until it happens here as it surely will if our government have their way.

go along with your sentiments Chris, but know what I see the prob as being, if leadership were to come from the street, from the masses, I don't think it would be that long before the new leaders became clones of the old one's, the repression would continue just the same.

The sad thing is I can't remember the incident nor GC and I wonder how many others can.

However one thing that I do strongly agree with is the absurdity of these "great" stage shows where the leaders of the world primp and pose against a background of conspicuous consumption.

I mean £80m that's almost enough to fund our MPs expense claims.

Oh I can remember it!! the police behaved like animals, raided the accomodation of the protestors in the middle of the night, dragged them out beating them all along the way, more like nazi Germany than a so called Western Democratic State.

Thank you Bernie, I agree with you re. the second bit also. If I had to put any trust in my anarcho' friends (bar one) leading anything then I'd have emigrated... But I still love 'em, nevertheless.
Thank you Brian, It was C.G. by the way...
How soon people forget.
