The Ear Trumpet

Outline: Another flash.
Why: Because it is new and I think it works, maybe...
Review: Any/all comments welcome
The Ear Trumpet

Once, in a desert far away
In a time where clocks no longer ticked
Liberace's candelabra turned night to day
And a tinkle of ivory notes were picked.

The music flowed and voices sang
And a sandworld was turned to song.
Then Beethoven clapped and big bells rang
As he said, 'My ear trumpet's never wrong.'

A wonderful bit of sheer whimsy, well done Ron.

I think you've done all mine?

Brian

Dear sake, it seems everything's bypassing my "Latest Writing" button today. This is the fifth poem I think, that I've found in read/review that didn't appear on latest writing. Ah well.
Metaphysical eh? Hmmm. Didn't have a clue who/what Liberace is/was. Looked it up. Wikipedia tells me Liberace was an american entertainer. But then I've never seen or heard of his candelabra either. Sounds like something from a greek legend - a candelabra that turns night to day.
I enjoyed reading this, there was a good flow and the rhyming sounded good but I suspect that a wee bit of this has gone over my head. I conjured up a few good images in my mind's eye.
Also, Beethoven became deaf in his mid twenties didn't he?
Interesting read this. I'm thinking about it still...may be back. I should probably get back to revision for tomorrow though Laughing
Thanks for the read,

Tim

Cheers Brian.

'Sheer whimsy' eh? Shocked How dare you Evil or Very Mad this was a serious attempt at deep metaphysical poetry, explaining succinctly the very nature of time and space and the everlasting talent contained within each individual soul. Huh! Rolling Eyes

Nah, not really, you're right, sheer whimsy. Laughing Laughing Laughing

You should join our flash group, it would give you new ideas constantly. Wink

Yeah, done Martin Alice already, and right good it was too. OK

..............

Tim,

In the 70s Liberace was big, I mean really big on TV and live at packed houses in Vegas. Wore a glittery suit and a master entertainer at the Grand Piano, on which sat his candelabra. Full-on Queen in a time when one could not own up to one's sexuality. At times very funny, mixed with a full-on mastery of that keyboard. Wink

..........

Thanks for stopping by you two, you are both always supportive and constructive in your critiques, much appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Ron,
Sacrilege... Beethoven and Liberal Archie in the same breath, whatever next... Liverpool and Chelsea in the same paragraph on football history?
The mind boggles! Rolling Eyes Laughing Laughing Laughing
Seriously Ron, I'm sitting here looking forward (sic) to my lunch of watercress (mild radishes without the crunch? Laughing ) and nettle tea, to promote healing of internal organs created by an operation undertaken to promote healing of internal organs (one step forward, two... ?) and I needed a nice piece of whimsy to lighten my mood. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Job done. Cheers Ron. Wink

I love this. Great rythym. Just wondered if lines 4 and 8 have 1 syllable too many?

Maybe you could bring in more composers and make the poem longer?

Shocked Vegas filled with the Old Masters, eh? Laughing Cool Wonder if Americans will take to Mozart in Caesar's Palace? Confused Laughing

It was just a bit of fun, Shelley, and I think the joke could get lost in the symphony if I expanded it.

Glad you liked this. Cool

Cheers

This was well worth a re-read and I suggest you post it again as Poetry at the moment needs a few more players,

Brian

Thanks for your vote of confidence, Brian, but this poem was just a bit of a laugh and, in my opinion, I wouldn't want to recycle it through the main board as it's had a good response there already and everyone laughed at it in the flash poetry group too. It's on my port if anyone else wishes to review it and, anyway, re-posting it wouldn't kick-start the main poetry showcase into action.

See you over on your new piece soonest.

Cheers
