The Snowman

Outline: On looking out of the window today.
The snowman who stood proud and round
In his white wilderness yesterday
Is less today.

A heap of dislocated veg
And twigs lie round the base -
No more a face.

The snow has thinned to misty rain
And still keeps resolutely dropping.
There’s no stopping.

And everyone’s gone back to work
The snow has gone too fast
The magic’s passed.

Hey there,
What an enchanting poem this is. It says a lot in a simple way. I really liked the feelings this poem evoked.

Beautiful poem. Good image.
As a child I wanted snow, now a driver I don't.
That is sad.

Love the picture, framed so pleasingly.

Thanks for reading, Dogboy and Ian. Snow really does make the world look magically different and - fortunately I feel these days! - doesn't last long. I would not have been so enchanted if I'd had to drive on Thursday!

A delightful discription of the ups and downs of a fall of snow! We certainly view things differently according to age. Funny I never remember getting time off from school in the winter. I remember having to wear our coats in the classroom because the heating failed, but we were never sent home, nor did the school close for "training" days! On the "down" side I recall the chilblanes, the hands too cold to write, and frozen knees!

Ah Poor Robb, I hope the chilblains have healed now though! Well done Anony......a great little snapshot of a 'lovely' day! We had hardly any snow here, (UP NORTH) but what we did have settled on the hills and looked pretty.

And the frozen school milk...

Wonderfully evocative little poem, Anony. It is sad that my first thoughts were to hope it wouldn't last. But you've evoked that sense of sadness I used to feel when it all melted away so quickly.

Maybe when I don't have to travel in it anymore, I'll be able to enjoy the view again Smile

The reviewer would appreciate your comments on: A Valentine

Thanks, Robb, Scribbler and Roy for dropping by to look at my snowman. It was great fun making him - with my little grandson. We stepped out of the real world for one day.
But then I didn't have to drive anywhere or do anything in particular on that day. Bliss!
