In Memorium

Outline: Inspired by vague regrets: perhaps one is too busy doing things for elderly relatives and do not stop to listen to them.
I lit a candle on your grave today
And put fresh flowers – roses that you love,
Just polishing the marble with my glove
To keep it ship shape, as you used to say.
It seems a very little thing to do
And maybe you are far beyond it all
And now in death the sum that you recall
May be the things I didn’t do for you.
And all the times I did not seem to care
Too occupied with all the things that fill
A busy life, and never staying still -
Half listening to your final cold despair.
We rush around and do not stop to hear
The last words of the ones we hold so dear.

I know this feeling, too. You've expressed it very well. Rose

This is a very real to life poem, and brought tears to my eyes. Great write, made me stop and think of my mother. cheers, scarlet

great simple rhyme. i liked the use of punctuation it gave the poem good dramatic pause for me. i really enjoyed it and it was a beautiful topic that was well exicuted. thanks for the read
