Tory Tony

Outline: A Nursery Rhyme for Grown-Ups?
Why: Fun
Tory Tony, dressed as a sheep,
Took from The People laying asleep.
But, what laid the wreath at his door;
Starting an unjust, unholy war.

Author Explanation: Just a thought that came to me whilst walking the dog through the beautiful Pinewoods at Harrogate.

Yes indeed, FC. Cool
But when you put it into context, only 100-odd British soldiers have been killed in Iraq (the IRA killed a lot more invading troops, and nobody ever said NI was an "unjust war").
Compared to Harold "We've never had it so good" Macmillan/Wilson and Maggie "Let them eat cake" Thatcher, Blair is the best PM Britain has had since that old warmonger Winston Churchill himself - and he was voted the greatest Brit ever. I think Tone will be seen in a much better light 50 years from now. Laughing

Mark my words, FC, I've suffered through more Prime Ministers than you could shake a hurley stick at, but Blair is the best in my lifetime. John Smith would have been the best ever, but God must know what He's doing. if HE doesn't, we're all banjaxed. Cool

Just goes to prove the old (military) adage 'Alway's sleep with one eye open' is a very astute observation. Time may tell, but that is of no relief to those (on all sides, of all persuasions) who suffer today!

Quote:
I have blindly followed and served, I am guilty but also proud. I gave when asked to give, now I suffer for being allowed to live! a pilgrim

Very thought-provoking FireCat - and very apt. Well constructed - it's hard to say so much in so few words

Like this, it appeals to me.
Never mind, we would be better off with a real Labour Party instead of two Tory Parties and the sleeping Libs.
Good poem.
Good intentions may be clouded by poor judgement.Does he think that deep?

Hi,

Perhaps this isn’t the forum for political debate.

But poetry is surely a perfect medium to express political sentiments - and in this one you encapsulate this sentiment wonderfully well.

Regards,

Thoth.
